The World Bank–supported Tripura Rural Economic Growth & Service Delivery Project (TRESP), implemented by the Tribal Welfare Department, is showing encouraging results in the livelihood sector across North Tripura district.

Under the close supervision of the district administration—led by the ADM & Collector—and coordinated efforts of Block Development Officers (BDOs), TRESP teams have achieved notable improvements in grassroots institutional strengthening, community participation, and income-generation activities. Despite challenging terrain and largely interior blocks, steady progress reflects effective planning, field-level execution, and continuous monitoring.

At the heart of TRESP’s success lies the large-scale formation of Producer Groups (PGs). The District Project Management Unit (DPMU), North Tripura, has so far facilitated the creation of 411 Producer Groups against a target of 590, demonstrating strong community mobilization and participatory planning across agriculture, fisheries, and livestock sectors.

Block-wise performance shows varying but promising outcomes. Damcherra has achieved about 66 percent of its PG formation target, while Dada leads with an impressive 92 percent. Laljuri currently stands at 38 percent, reflecting scope for accelerated efforts. Jampui Hill has reached 91 percent, and Pecharthal has covered around 55 percent of its target. District authorities are closely tracking progress across all five blocks to ensure balanced development. Following the successful formation of Producer Groups, the next phase focused on financial enablement and structured business planning.

Producer Groups Drive Rural Transformation

Sector-wise, 172 Agriculture PGs, 140 Fishery PGs, and 97 Livestock PGs are already operational. With technical backing from line departments such as Agriculture, Fisheries, and Animal Resources Development, the district team has prepared 293 business plans for these groups—laying a structured roadmap for production, value addition, and market linkage.

Financial support has been a critical catalyst. Establishment costs have been released to 270 Producer Groups at ₹50,000 per group, helping them set up basic infrastructure and administrative systems. Additionally, 194 Producer Groups have already received working capital assistance of ₹6 lakh per group, while the remaining groups are in the pipeline. This infusion of funds is enabling PGs to procure inputs, streamline operations, enhance productivity, and initiate organized economic activities.

Officials note that this combination of institution-building and timely financial assistance is strengthening local entrepreneurship while ensuring smoother operational flow at the community level. The steady pace of PG formation, coupled with structured business planning, is creating new opportunities for farmers, fishers, and livestock rearers—particularly among tribal households that traditionally had limited access to formal economic networks.

TRESP’s integrated approach—covering Agriculture & Horticulture, Animal Resources Development, and Fisheries—is already translating into improved income prospects and greater livelihood resilience. District administrators emphasize that continuous field monitoring, transparent fund utilization, and hands-on support from sectoral specialists have been key to maintaining momentum. The emerging results position DPMU North Tripura as one of the stronger performing units under TRESP.

As implementation advances, the focus remains on scaling up lagging blocks, strengthening market linkages, and building long-term institutional capacity within Producer Groups. The progress achieved so far underscores the district’s commitment to inclusive growth and community empowerment.
