BAKU (March 5, 2026) — Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially confirmed that Iranian drones targeted the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic earlier today, striking Nakhchivan International Airport.
The ministry reported that one drone hit the airport’s terminal building, causing a fire and structural damage, while a second drone exploded near a school in the village of Shakarabad.
The attack has resulted in at least two civilian injuries. In response, Baku has summoned the Iranian ambassador to issue a formal protest, describing the strikes as a violation of international law.

While official statements from Tehran are still pending, the incident marks a sharp escalation in the regional conflict, which has now spread into the South Caucasus.
