Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden believes the European T20 Premier League (ETPL) can carve out a distinct identity as a developmental competition. As owner and head coach of Glasgow Cosmics, Hayden stressed that the league’s long-term success lies in nurturing talent from Europe’s associate nations rather than competing with established tournaments like the IPL or Big Bash. He also highlighted ETPL’s role in expanding cricket’s global footprint, especially with the sport returning to the Olympics. Hayden explained his dual role was taken up at the request of Mugafi Group chairman Vipul Agrawal and expressed satisfaction with the Cosmics’ balanced squad of local and overseas players.

Ashwin Embraces Dual Role with Dublin Guardians

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has taken on the responsibility of captain and mentor for the Dublin Guardians. He described this as a natural extension of his recent experiences as a coach-captain in domestic cricket, noting that Rahul Dravid had seen him perform similar duties and trusted his leadership. Ashwin, recovering from knee surgery, sees ETPL as both a comeback opportunity and a chance to contribute beyond playing. He hopes to be fully fit by the time the league begins in Malahide, determined to lead his team with energy and vision.
