Assam Election 2026 BJP Candidate List: Massive Top Names

NEW DELHI – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) officially launched its campaign for the 2026 Assam Assembly Elections on Thursday, releasing a strategically crafted first list of 88 candidates. The announcement follows a high-level meeting of the BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) on Wednesday evening, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will lead the charge, contesting once again from his stronghold, the Jalukbari constituency.

Strategic Inductions: Former Congress Heavyweights Fielded

The list highlights the BJP’s “calibrated expansion” strategy, rewarding influential leaders who recently crossed over from the Congress:

  • Pradyut Bordoloi: The former Congress veteran, who joined the BJP just yesterday in the presence of CM Sarma, has been named the candidate for the prestigious Dispur assembly seat.
  • Bhupen Kumar Borah: Another recent high-profile induction from the Congress, Borah will contest from the Bihpuria seat.

Focus on Indigenous Outreach and Continuity

The BJP’s selection reflects a strong emphasis on tribal and reserved constituencies, signaling continued outreach to indigenous communities. Key seats mentioned in the list include Boko-Chaygaon (ST), Tamulpur (ST), Dhemaji (ST), and Majuli (ST), along with representations in the Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts.

In the Barak Valley, the party is banking on established local presence in seats like Silchar, Karimganj North, and Hailakandi to ensure continuity.
