Brutal Attack in Selakui Shocks Dehradun

The tragic incident occurred on December 9, 2025, in Selakui on the outskirts of Dehradun. According to police reports, Angel Chakma, a student from Tripura, and his brother Michael were allegedly racially abused and verbally harassed by a group of youths outside a liquor shop.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that Angel tried to defuse the situation calmly. However, the confrontation soon escalated, leading to a violent group assault. Angel suffered critical injuries, while his brother Michael was also hurt during the attack.

Case Registered After Brother’s Complaint

Following Michael Chakma’s complaint on December 12, police initially registered the case under sections related to intentional hurt, assault with deadly weapons, and criminal intimidation. After Angel’s death, more serious charges, including murder and common intention, were added.

CCTV footage collected from the area played a crucial role in the investigation. Police confirmed the involvement of six individuals. Five suspects were arrested on December 14, including two minors, while the principal attacker managed to escape.

Prime Accused Absconding, Reward Announced

Investigators believe the absconding accused fled toward Nepal using family connections. Multiple raids were conducted in border areas, but no breakthrough was achieved.

To speed up the arrest, police have announced a ₹25,000 reward for information leading to his capture. Two special teams have been deployed, and a non-bailable arrest warrant has already been issued and forwarded to the Nepal Embassy.

Vikashnagar Circle Officer Bhaskar Lal stated that the chargesheet against the five arrested accused was formally submitted in court on February 8. He added that preparations for issuing an Interpol Red Corner Notice are in the final stages.
