PUNGANUR – A horrifying incident has claimed the lives of four family members in Punganur town, Annamayya district, after a motorbike left running inside a closed home filled the residence with lethal carbon monoxide.

The Fatal Oversight
According to local police, the homeowner, Murali, had recently serviced his motorbike. Following a bore-piston replacement, a mechanic reportedly advised him to leave the engine idling overnight.
In a move that proved fatal, Murali kept the bike running inside the house on Tyagaraja Street while closing all doors and windows to secure the property.

Surviving the Night
While Murali and his wife, Revati, chose to sleep on the terrace, four other family members remained indoors:
- Ramachandraiah (70): Murali’s father.
- Karthik (15): Murali’s son.
- Charita & Chandana (8): Murali’s twin daughters.
The enclosed space quickly filled with smoke. On Sunday morning, all four were discovered dead in their sleep. Preliminary investigations by the police confirm the cause of death as asphyxiation due to carbon monoxide inhalation.

Authorities have shifted the bodies for post-mortem examination and have registered a case to investigate the mechanic’s alleged advice and the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
