End of an Era: Nitish Kumar Files Rajya Sabha Nomination; JD(U) Office Vandalized as Protests Erupt

Nitish Kumar Resigns & Files Rajya Sabha Nomination

Nitish Kumar Files Rajya Sabha Nomination

Patna– Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar officially filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections on Thursday at the Bihar Legislative Assembly. The event drew national attention as it took place in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President Nitin Nabin. This move is widely interpreted as a formal step toward a leadership transition in the state, potentially ending Kumar’s record-breaking tenure as the longest-serving Chief Minister of Bihar.

Emotional Confirmation of a Long-Standing Aspiration

Following the filing, Nitish Kumar shared an emotional message on social media platform X to address the citizens of Bihar. He explained that serving in all four legislative bodies—the Bihar Assembly, the Bihar Council, the Lok Sabha, and now the Rajya Sabha—had been a personal goal since the beginning of his parliamentary career. Kumar expressed deep gratitude for the trust the public has placed in him for over two decades and assured supporters that while his role is changing, his commitment to a “developed Bihar” remains unchanged.

The transition has sparked significant unrest among the party’s grassroots workers. Earlier on Thursday, the Janata Dal (United) office in Patna became a scene of intense protest and vandalism. Angry supporters, refusing to accept Kumar’s exit from state politics, reportedly destroyed office property and damaged a buffet counter. The feast had been organized to celebrate the expected arrival of the Chief Minister’s son, Nishant Kumar, but instead became a focal point for disgruntled workers to voice their opposition to the “Delhi shift.”

Speculation Mounts Over First BJP Chief Minister in Bihar

With Nitish Kumar moving to the Upper House of Parliament, political circles are abuzz with the possibility of the Bharatiya Janata Party installing its own Chief Minister for the first time in Bihar’s history. As the largest party in the current Assembly with 89 seats, the BJP is expected to lead the new government. Names like Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary and Union Minister Nityanand Rai are currently at the center of discussions, while reports suggest the new cabinet will receive Kumar’s continued “cooperation and guidance.”

The Political Debut of Nishant Kumar

Amid the high-level shifts, there is growing evidence that Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, is preparing to enter active politics. JD(U) insiders suggest he may join the party immediately and could potentially be considered for a major administrative role, such as Deputy Chief Minister, to maintain the party’s legacy within the NDA alliance. This move is seen by many as an attempt to stabilize the party’s base as the veteran “Chanakya” of Bihar politics transitions to a national role in New Delhi.
