Major Push to Medical Education and Healthcare Infrastructure
The Tripura government has taken a major step toward transforming the state into a health education hub of Northeast India by approving the establishment of a Health University and a new medical college in the ADC area. Chief Minister Manik Saha said this initiative will significantly expand medical education opportunities for students from Tripura and neighboring states.
He made the announcement while inaugurating the Third Annual Conference 2026 of the Northeast Diabetes Society at KLS Auditorium, located inside GB Pant Hospital.

“No Diabetes, No Drug Addiction” Call for Citizens
Addressing doctors and delegates, the Chief Minister urged every citizen to work toward a “No Diabetes, No Drug Addiction” goal to build a healthier society. He said community awareness and preventive care are just as important as expanding hospitals and colleges.
He also highlighted that the state government has invested ₹250 crore to rapidly upgrade GB Pant Hospital into a super-specialty facility. In addition, the Srijan Group is set to establish another super-specialty hospital in the state. Advanced healthcare systems are being developed across eight districts, which has already helped reduce the number of patients referred outside Tripura.
Better Facilities for Patients and Families
The Chief Minister said the government is not only strengthening treatment services but also improving support systems for families of patients coming from remote areas. New infrastructure and accommodation arrangements have been created to ensure better care and comfort.
He added that Tripura has seen fast progress in healthcare, education, agriculture, and other sectors, earning 347 awards in just a few years—reflecting the overall development momentum of the state.
Doctors Honoured, Journal Cover Released
At the event, Dr Debashish Nath and Dr Mridul Das were felicitated by the Chief Minister for their outstanding contributions to diabetes prevention and social service. He also unveiled the cover of the Northeast Diabetes Society’s journal Metabolica 2026.
With plans for a Health University, a new medical college, and multiple super-specialty hospitals, Tripura is steadily positioning itself as a leading center for medical education and advanced healthcare in Northeast India.
